I was in Ct. today and I took a drive by the org and there was a for rent sign in the window!!!
I don't know exactly when they closed, but it's gone!
    YAY!!!!
I was not able take a picture because I had other people in my car. Edited: and no camera.
But it is official! The New Haven Org is DONE! :D
    Another one bites the dust!

EDITED. Sorry!!! The bottom floor of the org is totally vacant with real estate signs in the windows and they have moved upstairs to a much smaller space as confirmed by Pooks.
I got too excited after seeing their totally empty store front windows.
SO glad they no longer have a store front!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They had another building they had purchased, I believe for an "Ideal Org," several years back. I'm not sure exactly where it is, but it's possible they moved there.

They're still listing the old address on the org website, which is

I picketed that org with pooks, Touretzky and others about four months before Chanology appeared.

The Ideal Org never made it to Ideal. It was purchased a LONG time ago. It is right up the street and it remains in disprepair, unrenovated and closed. In fact foreclosed!

Someone is still advertising on New Haven'sCraigslist.org for the cult, I wonder if it is an automatic reposting program?

Or a weak attempt at getting a fail mission going. Their Craig's List ads are pretty ballsy showing their $cilons up front. That will change soon as the harpoons begin to fly and then they'll be like the other fail missions' ads -- hiding anything to do with $cientology, Dianetics or Hubbard and no address or phone number given. Just the old, 'email me.' Almost like they're embarrassed or something. lol

even if I had one on me, I wouldn't have been able to really explain stopping the car there and taking a picture
  13. RightOn Member

    they were at 909 Whalley
The Ideal Org was supposed to be at 949 Whalley Ave which like I said never opened.
I tried to find the real estate listing but could only find 911 Whalley which is on the corner. And that has been vacant for a long time. Some clothing store was there. But I think this may have been part of COS at one time, but then they rented it out.
    I found this listing:
    Dianetics Foundation Hubbard (CLOSED)

    (203) 389-1803
    909 Whalley Ave,New Haven,CT

    I guess they moved upstairs!!

Could they have moved? Or they are completely out of business?
Please drive by that place again [if you can] and take a pic.
  17. Anonymous Member

That's exactly what I was going to suggest, i.e. that someone calls the. I can't do it myself, as I suck at acting, even if it's on the phone.
  18. Anonymous Member

What about a shore-story(pun) that say, "Oh stop here let me get a shot of this property an old high school friend is thinking of moving here and opening (insert business) this area looks nice"
I took a google view there are quite a few shops in the area just a cover story, quick pic and done.

I just got off the phone with the org. They are still there. But they are ONLY upstairs. They've contracted to upstairs space only.

I did not have my camera.
  22. RightOn Member

ahh!!!! ok! so that is why they are renting out the bottom floor now.
Still a great sign! And for those of you who don't know, their official name on the building is Hubbard Dianetics Foundation.
Ok, I will have to have a title change, but I had a heart attack when I saw thay real estate sign in the window.

That's what I suspected. I thought when we protested there, they were upstairs only, anyway.
  24. RightOn Member

when I drove by a couple of months ago, they were still downstairs.
This is still an EXCELLENT sign that they are running out of money!

reported the thread and had title changed!
Sorry guys, I got too excited when I saw all those vacant windows void of Dianetics books.

    Moving up a little higher?

  26. lostatsea Member

Yeah, if so, their retreat is good news. I never saw the front of the building back then, as at that point, we were only allowed to protest across the street and to the side (and they were filming us from the 2nd story windows, natch).
  27. RightOn Member

lol!!!! It was a beautifl site, I kind of swerved in the street when I saw it.
I guess if I actually did get into a car accident, they would have been the only ones who could have helped me!

To no longer have a store front where people walking by could see their piles of Dianetcs books and stupid window displays is so much win!

    Great news!
  30. lostatsea Member

Agreed. 2nd floor businesses are far less likely to get passersby to drop in. I wonder if they're still holding on to the delusion of an ideal org in that area.
  31. RightOn Member

do they own that whole building? or do they rent it out? Right now they have two vacant spaces if thats the case. The corner and the bottom store fronts.
  32. Anonymous Member

Yeah, upstairs, with no direct foot traffic is FAIL for business. Also, will take the DSA longer to get down the stairs to take pictures :)
  33. RightOn Member

welp, the other huge building at 949 Whalley was bought in 2004, forclosed and they still owed taxes in 2010. Forclosed due to lack of any work being done on it.
I wonder if they ever paid the back taxes?

"The amount of taxes due, according to court records, is $16,702 payable on July 1, 2009 and $44,196 as of July 1, 2010"

    Scientology is expanding.

    Do churches pay taxes?
    ;)
  36. RightOn Member

Why would the town of New Haven let them get away with owing over $60,000 in back taxes from two years ago?

    from the article in 2011
"“Without warning and reasoning, the city eliminated the exemption despite absolutely no change in use. Notice was not properly given to the church and Superior Court action was the only remedy left since timing for administrative appeal had passed by the time the church was notified,” Mingione said in an e-mail.

Carol Yingling, who identified herself as a minister of the church, deferred all comments to Mingione.

Joseph said representatives of the church were in touch with the assessor’s office reportedly after receiving a tax bill at which time they were asked to provide the city with dated work orders or contractor’s invoices to support their claim that work was continuing.

Assessor William O’Brien Friday said they never presented any such documentation. He said while the church, whose headquarters is in California, may have missed appearing before the February Board of Assessment Appeals meeting, they could have sent their lawyer or filed another request for exempt property, the deadline for which is September.

O’Brien said David Ambrose, the acting assessor before he came into office, was the first to find construction progress was not being made at the site. He said the exemption subsequently was removed after O’Brien’s staff followed up. He said a loophole in the law does not allow the city to retroactively seek taxes if the conditions for the exemption were not being met."

    so, did they ever pay?

The 2nd floor filters out all those imperfect beings who use wheelchairs, mobility scooters, walkers, canes, etc.
  38. Ogsonofgroo Member

Ha ha ha, hey, winter is coming, heat rises, maybe they figure if they rent out the bottom of the building they'll cut down on their bills? ;P

DH, well ya know, they only help the 'able', but knowing how they operate if a blind, mentally challenged, crippled, rich, gerbil, got carried up the stairs they'd be welcomed with open arms until.....
