This thread is being created to consolidate post regarding Sheriff Joel Kerns shilling for Scientology's Narconon Arrowhead.

Joel Kerns (D) is running for Oklahoma State Senate District 7 against incumbent Larry Boggs (R).

During a new interview with Janna Clark of Fox 23 Tulsa in 2013 Kerns made some rash comments while the investigation was still ongoing by the OSBI.
"Everything we found seems to be in order. I know for a fact they are trying to save people's lives to get them off drugs." - Joel Kerns

In this clip from Fox 23 Sheriff Joel Kerns isn't convinced Narconon is to blame.
"Everything we found seems to be in order." - Joel Kerns
"Kerns says he personally knows 3 people that are drug free because of Narconon." - Janna Clark
"I know for a fact that their trying to save lives and get them off drugs" - Joel Kerns

I would be willing to bet Braden Kerns (Joel's Son) was one of them, but something tells me this will be denied.

In this clip for Fox 23 Tulsa Joel Kerns stated the following:

"I would rather have a live Scientologist than a dead kid" -Joel Kerns

Gary Richardson, the attorney representing the families, was livid after hearing Sheriff Joel Kerns comments.

Sheriff's house burglarized, son arrested. Will Sheriff Joel Kerns send his son to Narconon or, did he already.

“We’re not going to let Tulsa and Oklahoma City be our voice,” Kerns said. “I want to be the voice." [for my special interest groups.] That sounds a bit more accurate.

During the ODMHSAS investigations in 2012 numerous law infraction were found. The Inspector General Kimberly Poff and investigator Michael DeLong issued their findings. What happened, they were fired by ODMHSAS for doing their job in August 2013. At the same time, Sheriff Joel Kerns made those comments to the media. You know the one "Everything we found seems to be in order. I know for a fact they are trying to save people's lives to get them off drugs." - Joel Kerns.

    Legal Doc links:

So, State Agency investigators were being fired in August 2013 for trying to shut down Narconon while, at the same time, local Sheriff Joel Kerns basically endorses Scientology's Narconon Arrowhead. Facts are facts folks.

They should be reinstated and not fired. Fired leads me to believe that OSA was involved and fabricated allot of shit to have that happen.

You're absolutely right, they should be reinstated.
Oklahoma was and is afraid of the past. CoS bankrupted Oklahoma's legal budget in the early 1990's for denying Narconon Chilocco it's permit. Finding it as:

Tulsa World: Sheriff criticized for seeking state Senate post following handling of Narconon investigation

    * * * * * BEGIN EXCERPT * * * * *

Two men connected to the embattled Narconon Arrowhead say they consider Pittsburg County Sheriff and state Senate candidate Joel Kerns unqualified, saying he didn't do enough to investigate the drug rehab center, where a string of deaths drew national attention.

When asked for comment, Kerns said he couldn't see the link between his role in the investigation at Narconon Arrowhead and their experiences with the facility, saying his department carried the investigation as far as they could before it was handed over to different agencies.

Robert Murphy, whose daughter was the third patient to die at Narconon Arrowhead between 2011 and 2012, and former patient at the center, Colin Henderson, held a news conference Tuesday in which they challenged Kern’s fitness for District 7’s state Senate seat.

Both said they were "appalled" that someone who failed to prevent the Narconon deaths was seeking government office.

Murphy's daughter, 20-year-old Stacy Dawn Murphy, died at the center in July 2012. Her death followed those of patients Gabriel Graves in 2011 and Hillary Holten in 2012.

Murphy and his wife sued the rehab facility in 2013 over his daughter's death. He said if Kerns' department had properly investigated the previous deaths or complaints, she might still be alive.

"As far as I know, we did everything feasibly possible that we had our means to,” Kerns said about the investigation.

Murphy and Henderson's criticism hinged in part on newly discovered information revealed in a deposition with Kerns.

In the deposition, Kerns reportedly said he did not speak with anyone from Narconon Arrowhead during the investigation, did not review surveillance footage from the facility and never read the OSBI's final report into the deaths.

These statements coupled with a 2013 TV news interview Kerns gave, in which he says his department's investigation found nothing out of order at the facility, prove he's unqualified, Murphy and Henderson said.

The deposition will be made public when Murphy's case goes to trial, Henderson said.

When asked about the apparent contradiction between his on-air statements and the deposition, Kerns said he couldn't comment because of ongoing court proceedings.

"I really can't even comment on what I did say," Kerns said.

On the ballot tomorrow: The former lawman who let Scientology’s drug horror clinic off the hook

By Tony Ortega, November 7, 2016

We are so glad this election season is finally almost over. But before you go to the polls tomorrow, we wanted to bring up one local race that has a connection to stories we’ve done in the past.

In 2013, we were paying a lot of attention to Scientology’s flagship drug rehab center in Oklahoma known as Narconon Arrowhead. Three patients died at the facility in a nine month period, including 20-year-old Stacy Dawn Murphy, who died of an overdose on July 19, 2012.

Those deaths sparked numerous investigations at the local and state level, and by 2013 we were getting pretty impatient for some results from those probes. On the state level, an investigation that resulted in recommendations that Narconon Arrowhead should be shut down instead turned into a major debacle as state officials allegedly admitted that they were too afraid to take on Scientology and fired the investigators who had recommended closing the center.

And criminal investigations of the deaths by the local sheriff, Joel Kerns, and local district attorney also seemed to go nowhere.

Three deaths in nine months at a quack anti-science clinic? What the heck were these local clowns doing?

    Found this;

Jaelon Kerns, 28, was arrested by the McAlester Police Department around 2:30 a.m. this morning, according to the sheriff. Joel Kerns said his son was arrested after police reported finding marijuana.

Jaelon Kerns was booked into the Pittsburg County Jail on an initial complaint of possession of a controlled substance.

Sheriff Kerns said this morning that his son went into convulsions at the jail. The sheriff said he and his wife posted bail so they could take him to the hospital.
Kerns said personnel at the McAlester hospital administered medical aid to his son but he died early this morning.
"I loved him," Joel Kerns said.

The state Medical Examiner is expected to perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death, the sheriff said.

    Joel Kerns pulled it in.

But the fact is, he lost. That is big right there, he can't push his quackery cult fronts with that power he doesn't have anymore. I can't imagine what ohio would be like. Money would be funnelled to the cult in that regard.
