I think it's entertaining at times. not much else to say. All kinds of crazy things happen around there

REAL aliens are the kind I want. REAL ones. Not fictional made-up lalaland fatty blubberlips megalomaniacal falsehoods.

I don't mind whether they look like elephants or gas clouds or rocks or energy fields or people with latex foreheads. It can turn out they've been here all along watching us with Dick Cheney as their leader, or they evolved before us and live in the core of our own planet or in deep ocean trenches. Really don't mind. Anything at this point, even Chthulu. Am deeply bored by lack of aliens.

Yeah I agree. It's not like we can just drop whatever we are doing and meet the aliens. They should have the decency to call first.

Personally though here's my thoughts on it: We've been a written history civilization for around 3000 years. In all that time we've only just managed to break free from our planet. Shoot, so far the only celestial body we've managed to travel to, is our moon. Even getting to mars would be around 2-3 years of travel.

We can't even make it to the next star, Proxima Centari!

And here's the kicker, even if we do somehow create fast as light transportation, it would still take 2 to 3 years of running top speed to make it to the next star.

Unless an alien species happened to live on a planet with a rare element that could produce TeraDynes of power, there is no way we can meet them.

I love Star Trek like any good nerd, but I remind myself that the distances in space are so vast, we'll never really be able to travel the stars like that. Unless we skip straight to folding space tech, light speed is still not a viable method of travel.

Then where are the slower-than-light space probes sent by ancient, former or long-dead high-tech civilisations to come and contact us?

It's been "accidentally-d" a few times. I an claim the failure for the second one.

As I recall, the first one got so large we moved it to Archive. So a second one was started. Then a mod accidentally merged it with another thread, making it a clusterfuck to remove. So the third one was made. Then I accidentally merged the third one... I think into either questions or NMA off topic. So here is the 4th incarnation.

Sorry for any confusion. Even after a mod has been training and practicing in the sandbox, every now and then we fubar something that should be second nature.
