    The TL;DR version: Scientology tried to remove a video about Tom Cruise acting extra crazy with a side of insane. That pissed off Anonymous and resulted in the famous Message to Scientology.

    Now, people have been fighting Scientology before WWP and Anonymous. In addition: Scientology has censored sites before the infamous TC video. However, the TC video was the straw that broke the camel's back.

    Now some can say: "What about [insert church here]???" Well, only a handful of churches could be considered a full blown cult. Fewer still rigorously tries to censor things that might give them butthurt and repel future members. I know of only 2, counting Scientology, that has a paramilitary force and I don't remember if the Vatican has even that. Any other church that has a military is usually much smaller than Sea Org and are declared cults...

    Point is: This Anonymous (and keep in mind there are many flavors of Anonymous) is about protesting through legal, peaceful means the injustice that Scientology has been known to do. Most Anons have a good rapport with local LE and that has come in handy at times when the Scientologists try Bull baiting. Look up Scientology Fair Game and ask why would a church , who has made claims of being the most ethical people on the planet, do stuff like that?

    Over the years this Anon has spread out to other aspects: Freedom of Information (One of the linchpins of the issues with Scientology), OWS, Iran and the Arab Spring, the Steubenville and anti-Rape movement (I moderate that area), anti-child porn movements (aka Op Innocence), and various other movements that have come and went. So, like a lot of things, it changes and adapts over time.

    They are a cult that represses freedom of thought, they lock people up when they do something the leader doesn't like, they have rehab units where they use methods that are unsafe, they encourage their followers in unsafe financial decisions so the church can get their money, they are unpopular so they make up organizations about pharmacuticels, health, freedom of religion to hide behind while they take money.....

    Oh I see. That makes sense knowing tom cruise does believe in science. (I'm assuming) my assumptions may be incorrect so please correct me if I am wrong. Yes, my oppologies I didn't mean 'church of science'although thats what I had written. Scientology is the correct term and is also what I meant. Thank you for the better understanding many 'anon claimers' couldn't give. Much abliged.
