I'm in the South of the UK. I can get in or around London without too much expense but Sunderland is far too north. I'm not sure what I could do apart from offer suggestions. I'll start a new thread for the UK and Aus Anons to work on the Tax Scam project. I'll check the other threads also for this.
If you do an online petition ENSURE that someone you know well has set it up. its probably obvious but CO$ would love a list of critics they can harass.
I think you should do some background research on your local MP (if you haven't already) and send a letter direct.

Something that has been bugging me that I just had to get off my chest.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hi Steele,

I thought of a couple of points that I hope the people at 51 Fawcett Street are compliant with. One of these points is to do with there being a food preparation area for the handling of the vitamin pills, mineral pills, vegetable oil and emulsifiers that are administered as part of what is called the Purification Rundown. These are classed as foodstuffs and the handling of which is covered by hygiene regulations. At the headquarters of the Church of Scientology, in East Grinstead, they are fully compliant with hygiene regulations and have been so for many years. There is a separate food preparation area for handling these foodstuffs and they wear the appropriate clothing such as overalls and chef's hats in preparing these foodstuffs. I reported a lack of these facilities for the Church's premises at 68 Tottenham Court Road, London Borough of Camden, and the local authority worked with this branch of the Church to swiftly remedy their lack of facilities. It might be necessary to investigate the situation at 51 Fawcett Street in this regard.

Another thing that might be of concern is the Data Protection Act. As you might know, the spirtual advancement of Scientology practitioners is measured by their "processing level" and this involves completing stages of a form of counselling that they refer to as "auditing". This auditing involves confessionals that are sometimes of a very personal and intimate nature, all of which are written down and stored in what is called "PC folders", so it might be important to consider the data protection aspects of this recorded information. The link below comes from the "Anderson Report" and gives an indication of the sort of information these PC folders might contain and therefore alludes to why it is important to protect such information from falling into the wrong hands.

    THE ANDERSON REPORT: CHAPTER 25

A slightly worrying thing I have observed in recent times is the young age of the people who might become "auditors" within the Church and so be exposed to such confessional material. I feel that if these people are below 18 years of age then this material might be very unsuitable for them. The Church sometimes recruits very young people to do their work and there could be Health and Safety issues at stake.

It's a common sight here. Chemicals left over from the ship-building days mean most male infants born and raised in Sunderland are shaving well before their 3rd birthday

Re: Sunderland Rates Relief based talk

    Hi Steele,

I just got confirmation from an ex Scientology member of staff at 51 Fawcett Street that foodstuffs are prepared on the premises in a room that is not exclusively set aside for the preparation of foodstuffs. This is not hygienic. The area should be set aside for the preparation of foodstuffs only and the staff need training in hygiene and need proper clothing such as chef's overalls and hats so that this activity is made safe such that the vitamin and mineral pills, vegetable oil and emulsifiers are dispensed and delivered off the premises in hygienic conditions. Compliance with this has existed for many years at their headquarters in East Grinstead and was found lacking and corrected at their former church at 68 Tottenham Court Road, London, so it should be a straightforward matter to remedy the situation at 51 Fawcett Street.

It's 20 years since I was there. They didn't have their own sauna but used a local hotel, however the vits and stuff were handed out in the Case Supervisor's room and stored there too. This room was also used as "Ivory Tower", and shared with the Lead Auditor.

Slight problem, going clear isn't getting rid of thetans, it's getting rid of engrams. You're missing a big part of the con and giving the cult ammo by making this mistake in the flier.

It's so more insidious that you get to the OT levels having paid hundreds of thousands to be told "yes, getting rid of those engramsand paying all that money did nothing. The REAL problem is invisible, dead parasitic alien souls infesting your body. Giz cash".

I remember when you nailed Tottenham Court with the food service thing. I believe another issue was the (probably) illegal sauna in the building? Anything ever come of that, or the fire hazard issue?

Re: Sunderland Rates Relief based talk

What was the point of the epic back and forth arguments about its content if it's not even right at the end! I said i couldn't be arsed checking it as i thought all the BB/Roland furore couldn't possibly miss details like this. Just goes to show why you shouldn't always trust those with the loudest voices

With the emphasis being on the tax relief, i think this is still a viable flier, so will continue till they are distributed. That is all

Re: Sunderland Rates Relief based talk

I'm inclined to agree with this. It's a minor error, and like i said before, not the main emphasis of the leaflet. The important info is crystal clear as far as i can see.

    Thanks Steele,

when I think of these people drinking cups of vegetable oil and taking huge doses of niacin and vitamins then I would not like to think of them eating and drinking these things if they had been in contact with germs.

With this cold snap let's hope they are doing the proper thing and keeping their staff warm at 51 Fawcett Street. How about somebody turn up for their regular Sunday Service this Sunday (28 Nov 2010) and if the place is cold and the workers are wearing coats then walk out and report them to the local council for poor working conditions the next morning.

Re: Sunderland Rates Relief based talk

I've been reading the information supplied to WT on this Sunderland Org thing. Something else is specifically needed for the Sunderland Org. That is, the local authority asked them to submit 20 testimonials from people of Sunderland who had been helped by the cult and they did indeed supply these testimonials. This is one of the things that balanced in favour of granting rates relief where it had previously been refused. I think that to get this decision reversed we would need more than 20 testimonials of the harm done by them and this again from the people of Sunderland or who were there at the time.

    Hi Steele,

thanks to whoever concerned for releasing the information I requested. It was very useful as was other information released to William Thackeray.

I am trying to get clarification from Communities and Local Government on whether there is to be official follow-up to the Pickles statement urging local authorities to stop giving rates relief to Churches of Scientology that was made on 15 Oct 2010.

Re: Sunderland Rates Relief based talk

Maybe a new version would help in light of information given to WT. It seems like 20 people of Sunderland have written testimonials about how much they have been helped.

How about something along the lines of:

    You pay your Rates
    Scientology doesn't
    You pay it for them.

    blah blah

To get charitable status here in Sunderland this "church" was asked to give 20 testimonials of positive benefit received by the people of Sunderland and this was supplied. So if you have been ripped off or otherwise harmed by Scientology through contact with this "church" here in Sunderland then please contact xxxxxxxxxxx

Re: Sunderland Rates Relief based talk

Do we know if those 20 testimonials were actually from non-$cilon residents of Sunderland?? Cof$ has been known in the past to task members to write letters and "testimonials" as needed for specific purposes. Letters to Riverside County Supervisor's being a perfect example.
