    ^THIS^

the job of the police is to keep the peace, and enforce the law, and whilst it's likely they will be sympathetic to peaceful protests, thats because it's making their job easier, not because they like you or agree with your aims, so continue in good relations, in all cases make their job easier, without giving up your rights, but when it comes to the crunch, if they ask you to move, MOVE, and argue the point later at the requisite station, to prevent it happening again. There is no WIN in pissing off the constabulary, and much future fail if they get so annoyed with you that they bann future raids.

just a thought, but you could consider I suppose, drafting a letter/leaflet, stating why you are protesting, why you wear masks, that you are not religiously inclined to protest, and the fact that the CO$ is notorious ( perhaps too strong? inclined maybe) for making these types of accusations, etc etc but not too in depth and no rhetoric, and hand delivering these to all the stations in the area that might be called on to respond, ask for them to be passed to the relevant officers.

this pre-warning, and a phone call in advance of raids to give notice, will at least lead the police to regard you as serious protestors and not troublemakers, troublemakers do not announce their intentions.

    (1) Speak to the "filth" :)grin:) first, and in a polite, friendly, professional manner let them know what, where and when you're planning to protest.

    (2) As a courtesy, it's worth informing them that people will be wearing joke-shop masks due to the serious risk of harassment faced by anyone protesting Co$.

    (3) Make a note of the name and rank of the officer you spoke to, together with the date and time.

^^^After doing the above^^^^ If an issue comes up on the day:

Just remember that more important than any parliamentary law is the "don't be a dick" law that everyone rules on first.
Be straightforward, friendly and sensible. No need for "rights" and "Section 7 of the human rights act says...". Let the police be the judge of that, and then your lawyer at a later date

Next time, tell the moron that you aren't protesting their right to hold whatever beliefs they want. You are protesting the actions of the organization.

That isn't really relevant. Anyone can believe whatever the fuck they want. That's not what people are protesting.

People are protesting against the cult, not its beliefs. In fact, the FreeZoners or whatever they are called, are people with Scientology beliefs only outside of the organization, and they support the protests.

Unfortunately I have to disagree. It's common for serious, organised, peaceful protests to have an anarchic element that split off and do illegal things. Informing the police beforehand about the plan to protest has never prevented this and they will still be (half) expecting it anyway.

They aren't sympathetic. They don't care about whatever bee you have in your bonnet to protest about, they merely want to prevent disruptive behaviour and avoid grief. They're working.

And phoning doesn't cut it, because you cannot assume the left hand knows what the right hand is doing. You need something WRITTEN.

Some advice for those that may face an "angry" or "obstinate" police officer (aka a dickhead) who wants you to end or move your protest.

A quick word for all those who know their rights. At the time the Police tell you something, you need to kind of "feel the moment" and see if the officer is willing to listen to reason. If you feel that they are not, POLITELY ask if his supervisor is nearby and can help resolve the situation. If you get a BAD VIBE be respectful and comply immediately with the commands. YOU MAY BE COMPLETELY WITHIN YOUR RIGHTS. BUT it will be a major fail to get arrested. Even if you eventually win and charges are dropped.

1st. - If in view of the COS they will feel it a win. (Even if you win later)
2nd - The public will only see a ANON getting arrested. (Even if you win later)
3rd - Although it feels like you are being wronged. (and you may be) Laws give you redress of grievances later. Call the Police supervision, later, (hey, go right to the station) and resolve the issue. Explain calmly how the group's rights were violated. (if you were polite and respectful to the original officer it helps, they can't claim you were unruly, VIDEOS) SHIT runs down hill. The supervisor has the power to hold the street cop accountable. If needed seek media support for your rights violation.
4th - Have all permits and letters instantly available. Copy of local and National laws. (make a legal packet for members of the group to carry)
5th - If a supervisor resolves an issue like this thank him and ask for a clarification letter so you may have it to show officers should another "misunderstanding" happen.

All the ANON's I have seen have reacted marvelously with their interactions with the police. Keep up the good work. Just remember - even if you are right and win, you have spent a lot of time. money and energy. It's easier to walk away and resolve it later. We are in it for the long haul and conservation of energy is important.

A cop once told me a Billyclub always trumps a good argument. Be careful out there!

hahaha... like 5 police cars? That's a joke... I've been around during serious assaults and rarely half that amount turned up.

They must have been bloody bored or terribly mis-informed of the situation before hand.

    Great work filming this :)
