The Steubenville Rape Case Goes To Trial - GUILTY!!!

Discussion in 'News and Current Events' started by System, Mar 12, 2013.

  1. It doesn't even matter if the victim liked the perpetrator before this crime or not. Or even if she gave consent before this happened. Pictures and videos I have seen myself clearly show she is unconscious. Once she becomes unconscious prior consent is now void. And it becomes rape. Welcome to the wonderful world of Steubenville, Ohio...from a former resident of Steubenville, Ohio.

  2. Not everyone who comes from there has a lack of worth or values. I hope you and others understand that. Some of us have left because of the lack that is there :) When I heard this story, no one could ever know how happy it made me to see that something is actually being done for something that is such a common occurrence there.

I can only hope that others will come forward but as we know the chances of this are unlikely.
  4. I was a victim of a scenario similar to this. And it was the nephew, and quarterback of my high school's football team, of the Sheriff who did it. There is too much hush-hush shit that goes on there. Personally I say burn the town and everyone who does sweep this shit under the rug to the ground. I hope others come forward too. It's too late for me but I'm sure this is a regular occurrence still. Because it was when I lived there.

Welcome to the club, it sucks dont it :(

It's not to late to go to the AG's office and document a long-standing pattern of behavior of the town.

There are so many guilty parties in this town, and yet none of them feel one bit of guilt, it makes me sick.

If you can talk to the authorities about it, do. Even if you're sure it will never go anywhere, even if you're sure it won't do any good, even if it's going to suck ass (protip: it's going to suck ass). Every victim that comes forward makes it easier for the next to be heard. Anonymous isn't nice or your friend, but e-hugs anyway.

  9. I'm actually waiting to hear back from them on it. I know no charges will be brought forth from anything I say. But it will shed light on just how serious of a problem is. I'm absolutely positive it's going to suck ass...and I'm actually looking forward to it. I don't just slink away anymore like I used to. They don't realize the bitch I had become because of my history there. But thank you! E-hugs back for the support!

There are lots of good people in Steubenville, it's just that proportion of assholes seems a tad higher than average, and include some of the local establishment. In these days of the internet, it's becoming harder to sweep things under the rug. It is possible to change the culture, and the real heroes making it possible are the Jane Does coming forward.

From a dude: My sincere apologies for what you went through.

Your best bet is to do as instructed by contacting the AG and explain in detail what happened. If that don't work: Move up the food chain: Congress members in state/out of state. Representatives in/out of state.

Let us know how it turns up.

  12. Thank you! I'm actually an advocate in NY now for victims who are either ignored or made even bigger victims by the justice system. My family (whom I no longer talk to) are actually friends with the original Judge for this case. And they are just like everyone else there. I'm working on getting together statements from others, anything I can get and I'll be getting to work on something where I am now. Personally, I don't think the people in Ohio care about anyone who used to be in Ohio but got smart and left. But we'll see!

I'll do my best to keep you updated! If you don't hear anything from me, be sure to hit me up though!

Let's not forget Statutory Rape. In many states, this also applies to pretty much any form of mental impairment -- such as NarCONon staff doing the "students".

Has anyone read this? I have a few thoughts of my own regarding this particular article. So a few people who live in the area currently talked to the writer. Big deal. They wouldn't allow their names, nor the bar they were sitting in to be made public. If you don't have the balls to stand up to leaders of the community you live in that is allowing this shit to go on then you shouldn't say anything. You're enabling the problem by allowing those people to continue to control everyone and everything around them. This is one of those moments I wish I lived there. I'd have no issue with giving my name, address, anything to a reporter. Hell, I wouldn't have a problem telling Sheriff Adballa exactly what a piece of shit he is...among several other people. Anonymity when you want change isn't going to cut it.

This is nothing against the group Anonymous...I assure you that. But these are people who live there with several that think changes need to be made.

It's not "too late". Just think about it- now you are helping other children by fighting it now.

Glad you are standing up, HTBH. I agree, it is never too late. The time is now.

Getting drunk is not a good survival technique. You become vulnerable to any predator.

My point- don't blame the victim. ALL children need to learn getting drunk is dangerous. Drinking didn't cause rape. Drinking creates more victims.

If you haven’t read @biglugg77 I would advise you to do so.
I met him a few weeks back – it seems like years, but it isn’t. I liked him right away! Unusual for me.
Robert is a good guy. An honest guy. Driven by emotions maybe – like we all are – but if you want to go on the Steubenville Journey — this is the best twitter to do it on.
Robert is honest. Right sometimes. Wrong sometimes. But I do believe Robert is honest.

    http://www.marshall.edu/wpmu/wcenter/sexual-assault/rape-culture/
    Examples of Rape Culture:

    • Blaming the victim (“She asked for it!”)
    • Trivializing sexual assault (“Boys will be boys!”)
    • Sexually explicit jokes
    • Tolerance of sexual harassment
    • Inflating false rape report statistics
    • Publicly scrutinizing a victim’s dress, mental state, motives, and history
    • Gratuitous gendered violence in movies and television
    • Defining “manhood” as dominant and sexually aggressive
    • Defining “womanhood” as submissive and sexually passive
    • Pressure on men to “score”
    • Pressure on women to not appear “cold”
    • Assuming only promiscuous women get raped
    • Assuming that men don’t get raped or that only “weak” men get raped
    • Refusing to take rape accusations seriously
    • Teaching women to avoid getting raped instead of teaching men not to rape

Yeah, if I was in such a position, I'd definitely take Ziegler's advice. After having most of my brain removed.

I'm very sorry to hear you went through this.

A lot of bad and/or weird stuff goes on in small towns. I once was invited to visit a town with a group of others because a mother's teen daughter had been raped and killed and she hoped someone outside would notice something others hadn't. The key suspect, a man already known for beating her, was allowed to destroy all key evidence linking him to the crime while the sheriff dragged his feet for weeks. RIP. Poor girl. Poor mother.

Stephen King never ran out of horror material for small towns - I'll bet he had personal reasons, too.

In the Silsbee case several people tried to get the door open to help the victim. Heros. The perp then threatened to shoot those kids. He got his place back on the team. Go Tigers.
