EXCLUSIVE: Secretly taped briefing uncovers precarious state of Scientology right now

By Tony Ortega, The Underground Bunker

The Underground Bunker has obtained a secretly recorded audiotape that reveals what “public” Scientologists are being told by church management at a time when Scientology is reeling from negative press and dwindling membership, and members are under incredible pressure to donate money.

This is the second time in recent weeks that we’ve been provided a rare view inside Scientology, which is notoriously circumspect about what actually goes on behind its closed doors. On March 30, we posted a truly stunning recording that captured a woman being “declared” a “suppressive person,” resulting in her expulsion and then facing the prospect of her family being ripped apart.

Now, we have a different kind of sound file. It was recorded very recently at an American “org” (we’re not going to disclose which one at this point), and it features a small group of “publics” (non-staff Scientologists) getting a briefing from a Sea Organization member named Andres Rodriguez.

Inside Scientology, Andres carries the weighty title of “Snr C/S WUS,” which means he’s the Senior Case Supervisor for the Western US “continent.” But he may be just as well known as having been formerly married to Jessica Feshbach.

When she was Jessica Rodriguez, the daughter of wealthy Scientology donors was known for being the “handler” of Katie Holmes during the early years of her relationship with Tom Cruise. The press had a field day with what tight control Jessica had over the actress — even, in some cases, answering reporter questions for Katie in interviews.

Today, Jessica is married to another former Scientology media handler, former spokesman Tommy Davis, and they have left the Sea Org and are raising a young child in Austin.

Rodriguez, meanwhile, is still a dedicated Sea Org worker who, his title suggests, is the most highly trained tech expert in the western United States. It’s his job to make sure that the orgs west of the Mississippi deliver L. Ron Hubbard’s “technology” with as much technical perfection as possible. He’s a longtime member of the church, and is very well known in the organization. And, it turns out, he used to work with one of our favorite contributors here at the Underground Bunker, former Sea Org member Chris Shelton.

“I worked closely with him for many years,” Shelton tells us. “He’s a very popular speaker in the Western US because he’s kind of down to earth and ‘tells it like it is’ and people like how personable he is, even if it doesn’t come across very well in this briefing…He honestly believes everything he is saying in this briefing and is totally a true believer in the ‘tech’.”

Our recording of the Rodriguez briefing is more than an hour long and contains several very different subjects and some startling disclosures about the state of Scientology itself. We’ve broken down the recording into segments to deal with all the issues it raises. You’ll get to hear every minute of it, but for today, we’ve split out the initial nine minutes as Rodriguez discusses the Purification Rundown and why veteran Scientologists are being asked to pay thousands of dollars to re-do the process, which supposedly “detoxifies” them (and is supposed to do so permanently).

Listen to the segment, for which we’ve provided captions, and then we’ll ask Shelton to break down the Scientology jargon and explain why he’s shocked by some of what he heard when we shared the recording with him.

Secretly taped Scientology executive complains about cheating on the ‘Survival Rundown’

By Tony Ortega, The Underground Bunker

On Sunday we revealed that we’d obtained a secretly-recorded audiotape, more than an hour in length, that captures one of Scientology’s executives giving a briefing to an audience of “public” members at an org somewhere in the US.

Today we have the second portion of that recording, along with more help from former Sea Org worker Chris Shelton as he helps us understand what we’re hearing. As he explained last time, Chris worked personally with the person you’ll hear, Andres Rodriguez, who is the Senior Case Supervisor for the Western United States.

More from a secretly-recorded executive griping about Scientology’s sad state of affairs

By Tony Ortega, The Underground Bunker

Former Scientology Sea Org worker Chris Shelton is helping us decode a remarkable audio recording, secretly made, which captures a man named Andres Rodriguez (pictured) giving a briefing to an audience of Scientology non-staff “publics.”

Rodriguez carries the title of Senior Case Supervisor of the Western United States (Snr C/S WUS), and he’s also notable because at one time he was married to the “handler” of actress Katie Holmes, a woman named Jessica Feshbach. (Feshbach is today married to former Scientology spokesman Tommy Davis, and they are both out of the Sea Org.)

In this third portion of the audio recording (Go here for Part One and Part Two), we hear more jargon from Rodriguez as he explains to his audience at an org somewhere in the US that he has complaints about the way they’ve been doing things. Shelton, and our oldtimers in the commenting community, tell us they’re pretty surprised by what Rodriguez has been saying — the Scientology he’s describing is very different than what they experienced in past years.

Shelton and others tell us this is a result of alterations made by Scientology leader David Misavige, who is dealing with dwindling membership as well as some members having topped out at the furthest reaches of the “Bridge to Total Freedom.” So he has convinced many of them to start over at low-leveled courses, and Rodriguez is complaining that they aren’t doing things “standardly.”

For people new to Scientology watching, it’s a chance to hear what goes on inside a Scientology facility without filters, and for the longtime watchers, there are interesting shifts and changes to policy that we’re told confirm that Scientology is under great stress right now.

Recently, John Travolta was asked about the dark portrayal of Scientology in Alex Gibney’s movie Going Clear. He said he wasn’t interested in seeing the movie, and he did what all celebrities are trained to do — he recommended that people “read a book” to learn more. But here we have a real peek inside what happens in Scientology — and it’s odd and troubling. Give the tape a listen, then Chris will define some of the terms and give us his analysis.

    This
Scientologists in the UK have all been redoing their Purification rundowns as they said content had been tampered with by individuals and that full dosage of niacin had to be reached to enable them to get quicker/better results on other levels. Good way to raise money maybe? That's right up to OT VIII's too being asked to redo the course.

A voice from inside the Church of Scientology: Yes, the ‘Survival Rundown’ drives you insane

By Tony Ortega, The Underground Bunker

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been posting segments from a secretly-recorded audiotape that captures a Sea Org executive, Andres Rodriguez, talking to a group of Scientologists about their courses. We’ve posted three portions of the recording so far — part 1, part 2, part 3.

The tape gives us a rare glimpse inside a Scientology “org” and what it’s like to face the challenges of the “Bridge to Total Freedom.”

In particular, we hear Rodriguez complain about the way students have been cutting corners in the “Survival Rundown,” a set of processes that have been given special emphasis by Scientology leader David Miscavige. Although they occur relatively early in a Scientologist’s career, many high-level members have been asked to take or retake the “SRD.” As we reported recently, one of our sources inside the church told us that all of his friends who were “OT 8’s” — the highest achievement on the Bridge, which can take half a million dollars or more to reach — were now working through the SRD.

Imagine if you had a group of friends who all had masters degrees or PhDs, and they had all been instructed to redo the second grade, and you get some sense of it. (But some Scientologists would be quick to point out that the old “Objectives” course, part of what makes up the SRD, was among their most enjoyable and useful experiences in the church.)

Former Sea Org staff member Chris Shelton has been helping us interpret the Rodriguez briefing. He tells us not only that it’s unusual that so much emphasis is being put on a low-level course like the SRD, but the way Rodriguez describes it is really troubling. Instead of relying on students to decide when they had completed a process, Rodriguez repeatedly emphasized that students should finish lengthy sets of hours before being allowed to finish the course.

Shelton warned us that this was not only different than what he had known in previous years, but that it was actually dangerous.

If Objectives are run beyond that, you can end up with people going into semi-hypnotic trances and all sorts of other nonsense which I think is psychologically damaging. So what you have here is Miscavige altering the technology to ensure it is done in the worst possible way to the worst possible result on every single person. He is making sure that almost everyone who runs these Objective Processes are going to be on them for hundreds and hundreds of hours and that they are very likely going to be a bit insane when they are done with them.

After that story ran, we heard from a source inside the church who wanted us to know that Chris Shelton was more right than he probably knew.

We aren’t going to identify this person, for pretty obvious reasons, but we wanted you to see what they sent to us about what it’s like to be on the Survival Rundown today in the Church of Scientology run by David Miscavige. We hope you find it interesting, and we know you’ll have thoughts to share with us in the comments.

Run 'em through Objectives until you've hypnotized the fuck out of them and then they will "run better" on processes and also pay for new processes plus give bigger IAS donations.

AUDIO LEAK: Scientology leader David Miscavige ‘makes L. Ron Hubbard out to be an imbecile’

By Tony Ortega, The Underground Bunker

We have another segment for you from a secretly-recorded audiotape which captures a briefing inside a Scientology church.

This is our fourth portion of the recent briefing given by Andres Rodriguez, a senior executive in the organization. Besides becoming known for being captured on tape, Rodriguez is also notable because he was married at one time to Jessica Feshbach, who became notorious as the pushy “handler” of actress Katie Holmes during her first years married to Tom Cruise. Jessica is now married to former Scientology spokesman Tommy Davis, and they are no longer in Scientology’s elite Sea Org.

Rodriguez is the Senior Case Supervisor West US, which means he oversees the delivery of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard’s “technology” for half the country. But as we’ve seen, his description of that technology is not familiar to oldtime Scientologists who have left the church.

Former Sea Org member Chris Shelton has been helping us break down the jargon-filled statements made by Rodriguez. And in this segment, Chris really delivers a master analysis of how much Scientology has changed under its current leader, David Miscavige.

First, give the recording a listen and follow along with our captions. Then Chris has a brief glossary before he gives one of his most cogent explanations ever.

Scientology’s plan to take over the planet: All Ideal Orgs ‘Saint Hill size’ by 2016!

We have another segment for you from a secretly-recorded audiotape which captures a briefing inside a Scientology church.

This is our fifth portion of the recent briefing given by Andres Rodriguez, a senior executive in the organization, and they just keep getting better. Rodriguez has really become a star here at the Underground Bunker, but he’s also notable because he was married at one time to Jessica Feshbach, who became notorious as the pushy “handler” of actress Katie Holmes during her first years married to Tom Cruise. Jessica is now married to former Scientology spokesman Tommy Davis, and they are no longer in Scientology’s elite Sea Org.

Former Sea Org member Chris Shelton has been helping us break down the jargon-filled statements made by Rodriguez. And in this segment, Chris delivers another great analysis of what we can deduce about the current state of Scientology under leader David Miscavige.

First, give the recording a listen and follow along with our captions. Then Chris has a brief glossary before he gives another great explanation of what you’re hearing.

LEAK: ‘Crappy stories’ about Scientology are driving more people to the church than ever!

By Tony Ortega, The Underground Bunker

Andres! It’s time to take your final bow! Today we have the last section of the lengthy, secretly-recorded briefing that Scientology Sea Org official Andres Rodriguez gave to a gathering of Scientologists at an org recently somewhere in the United States.

This is our sixth and final portion of the recording of Rodriguez. (Previous sections can be found here: First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth.) He’s also notable because he was married at one time to Jessica Feshbach, who became notorious as the aggressive “handler” of actress Katie Holmes during her first years married to Tom Cruise.

Caught on tape live that Andres is lying about how many people are going through LA's Org doors
700 people daily? WTF? Even 200 is laughable. But 700?
The COS is caught red handed in a taped lie, can't this be reported as fraud?

Great series. During the last segment, the brainwashing was hard to stomach. What a miserable dead end to put a mind/life into.
