Front page of CNN this morning:

Travolta 'struggling' five months after son's death - CNN.com

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- John Travolta is too distraught over the death of his son last January to help promote the movie he shot with Denzel Washington last summer, Washington said Friday.

Travolta plays a deranged ex-inmate who takes hostages on a New York subway in "The Taking of Pelham 123," which hits theaters June 12.

His son Jett, 16, was found unconscious on January 2 while on vacation with his family in the Bahamas' West End. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, local police said.

"Needless to say, he's struggling," Washington said.

Washington, who plays a subway train dispatcher forced to face down Travolta's character, said he talked to Travolta about two weeks ago.

"More than talking to him, I listened to him for more than two or three hours," he said. "It's going to take time. What can you say? Really, you just be there as a friend."

"One moment he's OK and the next he's in tears," he said.

"He's such a sweet, sweet person," Washington said.

    Sigh. Poor old JT.

Scientology works and it helps people.
  3. Re: Travolta 'struggling' five months after son's death

I feel real bad for John Travolta and his entire family, I respect him for being honest about the pain he is dealing with; instead of minimizing his grief for the cult's sake. Let the man have some privacy he lost his son.

...struggling with the knowledge that if he didn't belong to a fruity cult, his son would probably still be alive.

OK - but if I have to read one more PR piece about poor JT being distraught I might go hang myself. It brings absolutely nothing useful to the board.

He's now a walking advertisement that the "tech" does NOT work.

How many people who are distraught over the loss of a loved one will now resist when the cult tries to lure them in at such a vulnerable point in their lives? Hopefully a lot now that JT is making it plain that it won't help them.

Perhaps JT is finally realizing his experience with scientology was all a bad sci fi story with a very unhappy ending.

Maybe he's realised that how he handled his sons' condition had a lot to do with his death. May be he's realised that his handling of his sons' condition was down to his belief in the cults' teachings. May be he's feeling guilty and is beginning to see that the cult doesn't have the answers it claims and in fact does more damage by providing false hope and purpose to those that need it.

Why yes it can. Life lessons typically aren't the best learned the hard way, now are they?

i don't understand why travolta is still so upset! give moar money to the cult and get all the help you need from the most ethical people on the planet!

Re: Travolta 'struggling' five months after son's death

Sometimes when parents loose a child they feel a sense of guilt, that perhaps it was somehow their fault. Typically it isn't and coming to this realisation in part helps with the grief process. Unfortunately for John Travolta he very much to feel guilty for because of his denial of his sons' illness.

Also, his own beliefs simply state that one should not feel guilt nor sorrow over such losses, which isn't much comfort to a man who deep down knows he could have done something different that would have not resulted in his sons' untimely death.

Also, his stats must be way up now that he's not carrying around and caring for someone below 2.0 on the tone scale.

i forgot about that! why his life is even better than i thought! what the hell is wrong with him then?

Re: Travolta 'struggling' five months after son's death

Yes, I'm sure John Travolta has been saying to himself "What more could I have done?" All answers to that question (and all potential solutions he could have done) are opposed to Scientology teachings and traditions.

Re: Travolta 'struggling' five months after son's death

Wishful thinking. If that were true, the Jett Travolta Foundation would address autism instead of "environmental toxins," don't you think?

OTOH, it's more likely that JT had nothing to do with this Foundation outside of lending Jett's name to yet another Scientology scam to extract money from well-meaning people.

But in Scientology, autism doesn't exist. And blue asbestos isn't dangerous.

These are hardly the people I want posing as experts on environmental toxins and lobbying Congress to "clean up this place!"

If you're a scilon, then aren't your "children" just random immortal thetans anyway? (clusters of BTs notwithstanding).

Wouldn't JT be happy that whatever arbitrary thetan happened to occupy Jett's defective meat body is now free to pick up a better body somewhere?

    I don't get it

Technically yes, however I don't think that would lessen the impact to someone that loved their child.

    ^^^^

If the movie is coming out now, Jett must have died soon after movie was over, so Denz and JT probably were close during filming. Lets just hope Denz doesnt do anything stupid like open an Applied Scholastics school.

Can I make a motion from the floor, plz?

Yes, the man has done alot of things publicly for Scientology.

But the man just lost his son. Yes, it was back in January, but in grief terms, it was just yesterday.

As long as he doesn't start shilling for Scientology again, we leave the man and his family to grieve in peace. Its obvious that he loved the kid, and he's probably feeling very guilty in the things that he did that he thought was right. That happens to EVERY parent that loses a child.

I make the motion that we just leave the man and his family alone to grieve the boy in peace.

Scientology fails and it kills people.

When will John Travolta realise this? Is there anything that could make him realise this?

From my understanding, looks like just normal celeb friendship. Remember Hayes wrote the theme to Shaft. So a lot of black celebs showed up to the funeral. Will checkout my mom's Denzel collection just to be sure though.

Re: Travolta 'struggling' five months after son's death

This does not ring true, folks.
As an ex Scilon i know that there must be something else behind this. There is no way that if JT was taking services in Scientology that he would still be this upset. He would at least be able to function publicly due to all the attention and encouragement he might receive.
No, the fact? that he will not promote his own (violent content) film means he is most likely stuck in an ethics handling that is not going well. maybe his actions caused Scn some bad PR which is atoning for, or his marriage is on the rocks, or he did something to fail to handle Jett that was so severe that he is still not allowed on auditing. This opting out of movie promotion is a red flag signalling something is really wrong. hey, maybe JT woke up to the cult scam???? Maybe he is being sequestered so he can't leave?
I sure hope he gets out of Scientology very soon.

Re: Travolta 'struggling' five months after son's death

Travolta's involvement in the cult and following its beliefs most likely contributed directly to his sons death. So no, I will not feel bad for this man. His son, yes. Him, no.

Re: Travolta 'struggling' five months after son's death

Good, I hope he's upset. His fucked up religion killed his son, and he knows it.

I bet he's not promoting his movie just because he doesn't want to get raided at his premier, and have his son shoved in his face. Fucking puthy. I hope his son haunts him for the rest of his life.

  40. Re: Travolta 'struggling' five months after son's death

He's probably been reading information about his son's condition and possible causes for his death on the Internet and ran across information unfiltered by the cult which might have helped his son.

Like I said earlier I feel really bad for the man and his family
