Godless Scientology Racks Up Fees, Reveals Victoria’s Secret: Book Review Bloomberg 2nd Sept 2011 http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-...es-reveals-victoria-s-secret-book-review.html Odd title? Victoria's Secret? Here's why... Overall, a nice to-the-point review.

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/op...tor/warped-view-of-scientology-128371183.html -- from the above link Sorry for the slight derail. They always have to use the word "apostates" because it makes Scientology sound and look like a real religion. Smart of them to do that but it is not true and is now becoming tiresome. Those people are not "apostates". Those people are "dissatisfied customers" of a fraudulent sleazy scamming business. And that is all. Sorry for the sidetrack. And now back to the book.
Jaycee, Janet's book and its success has infuriated the $cilons. They are frothing at their keyboards all over the web while the strong sales figures and positive reviews keep pouring in. Janet's appearances in San Francisco are going to be Epic! Let's stay tuned!
And another reading/signing added to California on Sept 19: SAN FRANCISCO Sept 10th “Writers with Drinks” @ Make Out Room, 7:30pm 3225 22nd Street, San Francisco, CA http://www.writerswithdrinks.com/ Sept 13th JCC, 7pm 3200 California Street, San Francisco, CA (booksigning to follow) http://www.jccsf.org/ LOS ANGELES Sept 15th Book Soup, 7 pm 8818 West Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA http://www.booksoup.com Sept 16th Skylight Books, 7:30 pm 1818 North Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, CA http://www.skylightbooks.com Sept 18th Center for Inquiry, 12 pm 4773 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA http://www.cfiwest.org/ Sept 18th Center for Inquiry, 4:30 pm 1845 Park Avenue, Costa Mesa, CA http://www.cfiwest.org/ Sept 19th Rancho Mirage Library, 7:00 pm 71-100 Highway 111, Rancho Mirage, CA http://www.ranchmiragelibrary.org/
I urge any Anons that can go to her appearances to please do so just to act as sort of a security measure. The Clams are desperate and who knows if some crazy Clam might show up.
Actually, they use "apostates" because then they can cite this academic paper talking about a particular instance of Catholic apostasy and pretend that it means that "serious academics say all apostate testimony is unreliable". Find a Tommy Davis statement where he uses the word and there will usually be a phrase from that article nearby.
I want to highlight the speaking event in San Francisco that has just been added. Janet is speaking this Saturday, September 10, at the supercool Make-Out Room in the Mission District at their Writers With Drinks event. It starts at 7:30 pm. Saturday will be Bay Area epic. Pacman has returned for a South Bay Statcrashers raid in Los Gatos during the day, and Janet's event is in the evening. Spread the word to your Bay Area contacts plox! More info here as well: http://cfiwest.org/calendar/FeedYourBrain.htm#reitman Food and refreshments are available and parking is free (the Hollywood location). If this fills up like we hope, the nearby streets do not have permit restrictions for any overflow. CFI is in walking distance of the Vermont/Sunset Redline station as well (and also in walking distance of Big Blue!)
I also wanted to mention at the same Hollywood CFI venue, the next book club meeting will be discussing Janet's book as well. http://cfiwest.org/groups/BookClub.htm
Hot tit(s) Anyway, anyone going to any of the L.A. events? Particularly the CFI one on the 18 at noonish?
The CFI lectures that involve scientology always fill up with CFI regulars to begin with, but I hope anons show up as well. As CFI is in walking distance from Big Blue, it could be fun. Parking is free and if it fills up, the street parking has no permit restrictions. Near the Sunset/Vermont Redline station as well.
It's a re-publish of the Bloomberg article. But it's all good though and it's cool that local news out in Boulder, Colorado picks it up. Edit: And the Sun Herald re-publishes it too (Biloxi-Gulfport and south Mississippi) http://www.sunherald.com/2011/09/10/3416743/portrait-of-a-religion-drawn-in.html
UPDATE; JANET SF MAKE-OUT ROOM EVENT CANCELED Unfortunately Janet will not make it out to SF until Monday so no MakeOut Room However, she will be speaking at the Jewish Community Center on Tuesday.
Started "Inside scientology" today. We read so many bits and pieces it sometimes seems like a big jig-saw puzzle. Janet lays everything out in nice straight lines and connects the dots. Very well done and hard to put down. <3 my Kindle.
I read and listen to a large number of books. IMHO, Janet's book is brilliant and the reader chosen for the Audiobook is superb. He reads it like he wrote it and understands every word! Recommended!
Janet's book is excellent. A copy is being passed around our faggy SF book club. We will be attending the JCC event Sept 13th in SF en masse to show our support.
You can buy Janet's book on Amazon at the reduced price of $16.20+shipping ($2.50). It'll still save you $10 off what the bookstores are selling the book at. http://www.amazon.com/Inside-Scient...83029/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_1/175-8623993-9668763
Thanks, I tried the text-to-speech option but the Kindle sounds too much like the "message from anonymous" video. I'll look into the audiobook but I think I'd rather read it.
What I thought about doing with the audiobook was to use a few choice (fair use) snippets to combine with video for something youtubingly epic, but after listening to the preview I'm not 100% sure his voice has the right amount of gravitas for that.
yet another local reprint of the Bloomberg News review! http://www.sunherald.com/2011/09/10/3416743/portrait-of-a-religion-drawn-in.html#ixzz1Xdu6XQCo I <3 of this one's got such big fat hairy legs, its big hueg leaps & lives on a long time!
Finally finished reading my copy. Well written especially the section on Lisa. Most of what was written I was already familiar with but she added some new and interesting tidbits. I feel she could have easily written a second volume or expanded on some of what was there. If this book is the first book someone picks up on the subject it does give a very good view and synopsis of the who, what, where, when, and how. In short I think anyone who has never heard of scientology will clearly get a WTF education and stay away or at the very least follow the links she provided and do there own readin. Having said all this I am infinitely curious about the young scientologist Natalie Wallet. I have a hard time believing she could freely meet and speak with Janet without the church being aware or interfering. Is she still able to speak freely? It would be interesting to see where she is today and perhaps she would have been more believable had there been other young scientologist that could have corraberated her kind of thinking but I get left with the feeling that she was a plant.

A friend just sent me info that Janet appearing tomorrow morning 9:00 am to 10:00 am on our NPR station KQED's popular KQED forum. It would be appreciated if some one could record for future posting. KQED Forum: http://www.kqed.org/radio/programs/forum/ I am not sure if Janet's segment is call-in, but here is the call-in number: 866-SF-Forum 866-733-678
As I noted in the other thread, Mark is asking if you come, if you could please not be masked as it is a book event and not a raid. Thanks!
