But I was always against an outright ban anyway; Gives CoS too much credibility. Making the fines stick would be nice, but the "Practising medicine without a license" conviction would be juicy. French trial verdicts are in I would agree that an outright ban on the belief system / self help pop psychology that is Scientology is something that has no place in any open democratic society. And, crazies aside, I think (or at least hope) most people here would agree that people should be free to believe in Scientology if they want to. Now having said that, this isn't about banning Scientology itself, it is about dissolving the specific organizational entity "The Church of Scientology International" or whatever the name of the French equivalent is. I think that the state has made somewhat of a good case that, because the claims of Scientology are often packaged as being scientific or medical, the organizational entity is engaging in institutionalized fraud. But who knows. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
