Re: Verdict: GUILTY! French trial verdicts are in What I don't get about all this is why Scientology are appealing. Do they not realise it could have been much worse, and could well be much worse once further evidence of their history of fraud (not to mention abuse of the legal system) is exposed to the courts? They didn't get a ban, just a slap and a warning. Not a perfect result, but a very good one, and the resulting media exposure alone is going to roll along for a very long time. Not only is it warning non-members, but surely some low level members (the new lifeblood of the cult) are going to hear about this and start worrying, especially if the expectant resulting increase in sec-checks unrolls around the world. I'll also add, "where's Miscavige?" to the mix. Not only would the public expect the leader of the organisation to speak about it, but surely members must be wondering what's going on too. Pity it didn't come a little earier so we could have exploited it at the IAS event, but hey, it's all good. Sound familiar?
Re: Verdict: GUILTY! French trial verdicts are in It's Scientology. They don't take any lawsuit laying down, let alone one that says they are frauds. Come on man! Get your head in the game!

Re: Verdict: GUILTY! French trial verdicts are in And then there's still the European court of Human rights (this one exists Ann). It was said on a french media yesterday that the president of the court was considering the idea of improving the scrutiny by the court of the possible false claims (my wording) of human rights abuses by entities such as "churches" or organizations. That would be AWSOME... (and could be a consequence of some poons too, who knows...) BECAUSE !

Re: Verdict: GUILTY! French trial verdicts are in Bonjour! Just wanted to say (if it hasn't been pointed out before) that the 118 pages verdict document is on Usenet on alt.binaries.scientology . That's where it's meant to be, anyway. Please shout if it isn't and maybe Something Can Be Done About It. Our elite document scanning Old Guards were done before dinner (I'm impressed!). Best regards Jens

Re: Verdict: GUILTY! French trial verdicts are in eric roux was yammering on last night about the court of human rights. SHOULD continue??...scientology...misunderstanding seems to be their only communication skill. France Convicts Church of Scientology of Fraud <snip> A senior official with the Church of Scientology, Eric Roux, says the church will appeal the verdict, citing intense media and political pressure during the trial. But he praised part of the court's decision. "The court said that in France, Scientology should continue," Roux said. "And on that point they are very right. This is the fair part of the verdict. That would end any odd idea that the church should end in France. Scientology is recognized everywhere in the world and France must step up to international standards. That is good for the church."

Re: Verdict: GUILTY! French trial verdicts are in Some nice number$ for you to quote: ( Summarized from data available here: Infinite Complacency: The Court's Ruling ) In addition to the total of 668,00 Euros in total fines, it further cost the cult/culties.... For the plaintiff Aude-Claire Malton awarded total of 12,450 Euros in damages and costs For the CNOP (The National Council for the Order of Pharmacists) awarded a13,000 Euros in damages and costs. (as well as paying for an announcement to be published in a Pharmacists professional journal, not exceeding 2,000 euro value) This adds another 27,450 Euros to the above 668,000 total in fines, making grand total of 695,450 Euros which the cult and individual scientologists will be paying out in total. At today's exchange rate, for our main worldwide readership, this is: USD 1,030,587 GBP 630,020 CAD 1,099,740, AUD 1,131,394 NOK 5,815,200 DKK 5,176,333 SEK 7,186,400 CHF 1,051,817 ILS 3,843,582 RUB 30,155,294 JPY 94,048,855 INR 48,562,216, HKD 7,987,067 ARS 3,937,672 BRL 1,790,130 So, there you are. You can quote the magic US$1,000,000+ Note: this does NOT include the costs associated with the order to pay for publication in major French/French-english press, such as TIME Magazine etc. It certainly won't be cheap (and I doubt TIME will give them a discount, lol). Anyone got any ideas what kind sums we are talking about here?
