Re: We need a new XENU.NET!

The following has only to do with the home page and marketing of the xenu.net domain to Joe Public.

    web site marketing fundamentals ignored!

-xenu not an english word ("did he say zenu, or xemoo, or what?")
-spoken person to person or over the radio, xenu.net doesn't transcribe well.
    -it's a .net (further Joe Public's confusion)
-when you land on the home page, 'xenu' appears pretty much nowhere on the home page to let you know you are at the right place. (only the small pic in the lower left)
-what do you see on the home page?---> Clams. (wtf?) Not everyone gets the clam/clambake metaphor. A clambake is just not a global past time that everyone can relate to. When Joe Public thinks of Scientology, do they think of clams? When I went there for the first time, I thought I had been Clamrolled. I thought it forwarded me to something that has little to do with Scientology. "undressing Scientology" - yet another metaphor. The literary flair on the home page doesn't help n00bs learn.

Also, as stated ITT, a message board might not be the best place for a non computer-savvy n00b to look 1st. To market successfully on the net, one has to go for the technically lowest common denominator or one limits their audience to mostly geeks.

The best IMO are youfoundthecard.com and enturb.org (tho I'm sure there are better/shorter/english domains no one has thought of yet)

    my 2 cents

Someone register ytfc.org already! That'd work really well since YTFC is already Joe Public orientated.

Re: We need a new XENU.NET!

But there is flaw in your plan. To get a better/shorter/english word domain you will end up paying out your ass! If we focus in the .com arena we will end up spending a bunch of money trying to get what we want. Yes the average joe goes for the .com before they think of .net but im not a fucking billionare and im pretty sure none of you are either.

I say we find a short 2(TWO) word english domain. This will be effective as long as is phonic and in the .com extension. I know there have been sugestions but they suck ass. We need something we can use to an SEO advantage as well so we can place the site in SERPs so people can just stumble upon it.

    Ideas?

costs $7-$25 bucks/yr for a .com domain. a couple bucks more to forward it.
    Where's the flaw?

    How about a wiki?

Upload everything we've learned about the Scilons, including leaked dox and audios. Put them all up there for everyone to read. Register it in a country where the CoS has been banned, so they can't FairGame it to death.

Loads of people read Wikipedia everyday and they can raise enough money to keep their domain going. No reason why Anons couldn't do the same thing.

As far as contributers: don't let just anybody upload stuff or the Scilons will destroy it as fast as we put it together. Have a list of approved people to submit articles.

People might think that if you put too much on the site, it would turn people off. But, if you may it accessable enough and easy to read and understand, you'll have people from all over the world who can learn everything they need to know to protect themselves and their families.

The article on Fair Game should be the most detailed, with past and current examples of FairGame in action, happening to real people.

Build it and they will come.

would the wiki have a short, memorable, user friendly url?

Re: We need a new XENU.NET!

    ^^^ This!

Also, yftc.org is still unregistered, I don't have the funds to buy it myself so will someone get onto it. Ukreg.co.uk offer a free forwarding service by the way.

Re: We need a new XENU.NET!

KISS - Keep It Simple, Stupid.

Well just because the scripting is simple doesn't mean kiss covers his arse. Simplicity is needed in the design- meaning, it needs to look neat and accessible. Not just to noobs.

Web designers are crying in pain. Design + coding/scripting goes hand in hand. So he reckons presentation doesn't matter over information. Doesn't really truely apply especially today when most audience expect websites to be up with the times. Seeing something using what appears to be a design back when the internet was "new" gives the impression the site is shit. Something that looks 'flashy' actually helps the audience accept that the site is legit and may provide them with good sources. Add navigation into the equation- how the hell can one say presentation doesn't matter? There's still a need of balance with presentation vs what you provide.

But we got other sites we can focus the public too. Btw, enturb.org isn't the best pick either- I get the public coming to me going "i went to this site on the flyer- WHERE WHAT OMMMMMMMMMG" because they see most of it as 'irrelevant', rock up to the forums, which is all this place really is and freak out.

Indeed, I notice yftc.org is working now which has just replaced xenu.net on all my stickers and flyers.

yftc.org has been registered and redirects to youfoundthecard.com

if anyone was serious i'd give them scientrology.org

Re: We need a new XENU.NET!

The flaw is try finding one that is AVAILABLE that makes sense. EVERY English dictionary word has been regged along with all LLL.coms and LLLL.coms, L=LETTER. So basically you will look at paying upwards of $X,XXX range for one of those .coms. I know cuz i own a bunch of them and sell them all the time.

Like i said 2(TWO) word .com that makes sense and is considerably short would be perfect.

Re: We need a new XENU.NET!

youfoundthecard is a simple sentence. yftc is a bunch of nonsense letters that have no meaning. youfoundthecard is therefore simpler to remember. While it's true that shorter is better in terms of URLs we're also putting these URLs on signs, so memorability is incredibly important as is spelling. Spelling a word differently isn't going to work. Spelling a word with additional dots isn't going to work.

I think Why We Protest does a good job of explaining it to people simply, with some other additional links if people would like to learn more.

I think that if we just got a smaller URL that redirects to it that would be good.

Re: We need a new XENU.NET!

Why we protest is out of date, and hasn't been updated since May I think. We need an active site that a few people will maintain, not just one.

Re: We need a new XENU.NET!

    PFD,

This is why communicating on the 'Net often creates unnecessary confusion and misunderstanding. Try to give people the benefit of the doubt and ask for clarification instead of assuming things that have not been said or think black/white.

I am not trying to "covers [my] arse", as you uncritically assume. I'm just trying to explain why I have done what I have done. I'm not saying it is perfect, just why. I would have done it differently if I had more time, but didn't. People write me and say they have time to offer and I welcome that. I thought I did so in a polite and friendly manner. I tried to carefully explain that I welcome help and that Operation Clambake of course can be much better than it is. How come you missed all that?

I did also not say "presentation doesn't matter over information". I said and I agree presentation is important today, but I also think true and valuable information will prevail over nice wrapping. When information is free different people will take it and present it differently. I did not have the ambition to master all this alone, I only wanted to help make the core information more available so that you and others could read and maybe help make it even more accessible. Instead of picking on me because I'm not perfect or don't do everything you would like to see, why not just be nice, give the benefit of the doubt and pick up the stick? I trust you are both younger, smarter and better than me and I am filled with joy and great expectation waiting for all the great stuff you and others will surprise us with. I'm here to see the cult go down on it knees and it is great if we (despite all our differences and disagreements) can join together in achieving that. That is an incredible force such abusive groups can not stop and IMHO it is a huge victory to freedom of information and thought. Internet is us and it actually has the power to change the world!

I don't have any pride invested in this fight or my site, I'm just trying to support victims of this cult. I try to do my little part and if it helps someone then fine, if not then my site and efforts will wither into history and be forgotten. I actually believed my site would be surpassed many times already, I never suspected it would be so central after 12 years. I'm not responsible for that, people who find it usefull is.

Over the last few months I've received a handful e-mails from people saying they are part of Anonymous telling me my design could be better. I ask them to provide proposals for how it can be made better and I have yet to hear back from any of them. This has actually also (to some degree) stopped me from doing anything with it or ask others as I was led to believe someone was working on it.

Please try to read what I actually write and when in doubt just ask me. English is not my first language and I might express myself clumsy. Either you trust my motives in this fight or you don't. If we trust each other then we could at least give each other the benefit of the doubt when communicating. I'm not here to fight or argue with other critics.

    Take care.

Re: We need a new XENU.NET!

Do what you will with anon.tv but yftc.org is probably the best one to put on placards IMHO since it's already designed to be a newbie site and if the public are seeing it then great. Not to mention it should be regularly updated, amirite?

    @Spirous

Then I take it you approve of Anonymous to use all information gathered on your site at no cost to further the goals of dismantling Scientology?

It would be nice if you could reply to this post with a Yes or No.

Re: We need a new XENU.NET!

This is covered in my FAQ:

"Can I use material on Operation Clambake for my own projects?"

Everything on this site made by me is donated to the public domain and can be freely copied and mirrored. But please use common courtesy and give proper credit where credit is due. Some of the information I offer may have been created by others and special conditions might apply to it. When this is the case, it is often specified on those pages.

    Thanks, Andreas.

Xenu.net is a better name than yftc.org. I'm just saying. Already ITT, someone transposed the letters to ytfc.org. It is less memorable than youfoundthecard.com

Re: We need a new XENU.NET!

    Cheers for the reply,

Sorry my post was harsh, i agree It was rather one sided as your English is absolutely fine! It was a long day at work when i replied and I deal with poorly presented domains at my job so it's become one of my top disliked things of all time. I shouldn't of made it sound like a personal attack so i apologize for that as I do trust you motives.
I heard a number of anons had be offering to assist in the design, though I'm rather shocked no one presented you with any proposals. I've thought of sending you proposals in the past but at present, my home internet connection is rather useless for keeping in contact with people regarding chanology as it is so decided against it.
Anyway, I think I'll go back to lurking in enturb's dark corners again :D

Re: We need a new XENU.NET!

Just for the record: While many have said xenu.net should be redesigned and that they wanted to help with it, I have to date not received even one proposal or any confirmation that anyone are actually working on one. Maybe it isn't that bad after all? :)
