WWP is for legal, peaceful, non-violent protesting. It is completely opposed to any and all illegal activities. Are you certain that WWP is the right WWW Forum for you? IMO, it is looking rather doubtful.
Of course I'm sure it is the right place. The "Stingray" is a device that can legally be purchased. What someone would chose to do with it is their business. If WWP only promotes legal protesting then how could anyone ever get arrested? All I am saying is that one of the reasons law enforcement get away with violating the constitutional rights of the citizens is because they break the law and try to say it's because it's their job. I am just proposing that we beat them at their own game and "bend the rules" (as law enforcement would say) to get them arrested for these crimes. Would that not be "legal, peaceful, and non-violent"?

Because these devices are not available for public use or purchase and are sold strictly to LE agencies for valid usage (Although what you posted about what the LE doing is proof that tools in the wrong hands have disastrous unintended consequences.) Consider this: Radar Detectors for police radar, IIRC, are not legal in all states. Radar Jammers are illegal, IIRC mind you, in all states. What this device you describe I'd imagine isn't legal for civilians to use, purchase, or even own. Not to mention, I'd wager good internets that they'd cost an arm, leg, dick, and both balls or if you are a woman both tits. (ie: A whole fuckton of money.... I don't think many WWP Members here are proud owners of whole lots of fucktons of money.) WWP is interested in legal, peaceful protests. The reason for this is that some WWP members work with the local LE to protect themselves from the Fair Game Policy that Scientology uses against critics This proposal you have I can easily see being used by some as ammunition against the whole Chanology movement or even abused by members. This "fight fire with fire" is exactly the opposite of what we do around here. Taking the "high ground" eliminates any accusation from Scientology, or others who want to discredit WWP, that this group is similar to the Cracking Anons heard about on TV.

There has been at least one case that I know of where a man looking for adult sex was entrapped into a arrest for pedophilia. One case, are there more? This is a miscarriage of justice, entrapment is never a good thing for justice. Some of your posts are confusing me, and others too judged on your replies itt. Please state your case. Don't worry about tactics right now ( phone tapping is illegal when you are not a LE) but I'm confused about what you want here?
I stand corrected about the whole "fight fire with fire" thing but I was not talking about anyone here doing that. If only LE can use this device then there must be a Snowden in the mix somewhere. You know, someone with a conscience. Also as far as the phone tapping being illegal unless you're LE, that is not true. It is highly illegal for LE to tap phones unless they have a reason to tap it and get a warrant before hand and this comes directly from the FCC. It is the same scenario with the drug dealer that had a GPS device illegally placed on his car by the FBI for months until they ultimately caught him making a drug deal. Needless to say, the conviction was overturned and the case thrown out. What most people don't realize is that the constitution protects criminals too. Due process is not a fixed concept but a fundamental right that is evaluated using the circumstances of the case at hand. I.e. If you are a criminal, the police can only catch you if they do it legally. Finally, not that I am concerned but why is my identity not safe here? This group does not participate in illegal activities and hacking my computer is against the law. In fact, it is a felony at both the state and federal level as the FBI just proved when they arrested the "core of this organization".
So the purpose of bringing up the "stingray" was to see if anything was being done about it and could we do anything about it?
Oh yeah, and my purpose here is to help and be helped if it comes to that but judging by the success rate of the lies being fed to the public by LE about the sex stings, that might take some time.
While acquiring one of these babies is highly illegal if you aren't a law enforcement official or military in the US, I wonder what the laws are exactly in other countries, if one would be sold or acquired legally. It would be highly interesting to understand how they function for the simple purpose of protecting oneself against illegal wiretapping by abusive law enforcement agencies. Any thoughts?
Actually, from a hacker perspective, it's a very interesting device. I'm not a technical expert by any means but I would love to find a legal way to get someone who knows what they are doing to obtain one of these and find out ways to protect ourselves from illegal spying. Please wwp, stop getting up on your high horses everytime someone proposes something that doesn't go the same way as law enforcement would like it to. Some of us are also protesting police abuse amongst other things. Legally of course.

According to court documents from the Daniel David Ringmaiden case, it would appear that the device does not discriminate between signals, therefore also capturing signals from other devices that do not belong to the targeted individual. Personally, I have an issue with public apathy over large scale spying of citizens, remember when people were offended at bush's wiretapping? This is nothing compared to the extent it goes on right now in many law enforcement circles. And the secrecy surrounding it doesn't help the matters at all. If no one tries to find out more, or simply accepts it without question, they are just going to keep getting away with it.
Letters have been written and a lot of them. The problem is there are laws created by the FCC that are supposed to be followed but they are not being followed. These federal codes encompass cell phones and the internet. The abuse here is that law enforcement think that they can do anything they want even when they know they are not supposed to because they are relying on the fact that most people are ignorant of their rights and of the laws that govern their conduct. This is why a lot of times during a routine traffic stop, cops will ask to search your car for drugs or something. They know they can't legally search it but they know that you might not know that. Then, if they find drugs they can arrest you and make the county some money. Furthermore, you more than likely will not try to fight the illegal search and seizure because you probably will not be told that by your public defender and you more than likely will not know.
There has already been proven to be abuse in another case that I can't think of right now and that is why the ACLU got involved. The circumstance was that a cell phone came up missing but the only way law enforcement knew who stole it was using this stingray device illegally. Sure the guy stole the phone, but they were supposed to have probable cause to obtain a warrant and then use the device. Not secretly go out and scan a bunch of cell phones until they found the number they were looking for. This device also gives the exact location of the phone of course which is another problem in and of itself. Therefore, it's not just that they are tapping the phones, they are using the device to illegally get the exact location of the phone.
Oh I certainly agree, and coming from one of the most apathetic countries ever, it gives me no end of chagrinz that we are so trusting and stoopids/lazy. It ends up getting justified by the old apple 'Weeeellll ifin y'all ain't got nothin' ta hide' sort of shit, the problem being , of course, when the tables get turned, then its all 'OMGSEKRITSBBQ'!!! and such.
