Back when the Founders created that wall of separation between Church and State, I wish they had also thought of building a wall of separation between Corporation and State.
Anti-GMO is stupid.
Anti-Genetically Modified Opium is stupid? I agree.
You know... this would be the part where I'd call bullshit and say stuff like I won't fight this under Anonymous's banner....
...But this may cause me to reevaluate that heavily...
marijuana = evil.
gm food = exceeeeeellleeeent!
Man made GMO.
[Insert the deity you worship or believe in here or leave blank if you are an Atheist] made weed.
Who do you trust more?
Then again, I'd OM NOM NOM GMOs since weed is mostly fiber and THC.
This is true.
"The WindUp Girl"
I'm glad Europe generally rejects GMOs. And it's not just politicians - people on the ground really don't want their products to be genetically modified. So fuck US politicians.
GMOs, in and of themselves, are not a great concern of mine. However, Monsanto is downright evil. They want to establish patent monopolies over every kind of food, then wipe out independent farmers or organic farmers. They do this by dispersing their patented seeds over neighboring farms, then sue the farmers out of business for "patent infringement." Monsanto is shit and if you could put a corporation against a wall and shoot it, that would be a good thing.
Gene transfer between gmo foods and the GI tract should concern anyone who eats processed foods. It's a fact that horizontal transfer of corn or soy dna is happening now, possibly to you, and that we are all test subjects for this historically unique biochemical process. The vast majority of the dna in any human body is not that of the person, but of the host bacteria, viruses and various beneficial, neutral and dangerous microorganisms that make up the complex ecological system that is any human being. These are the many pathways for dangerous gene vectors to enter into our reproductive systems, just as some viruses do, to become mutations or human diseases.
It isn't crazy to trust evolution over Monsanto, even though nature is often far from safe, and for people to have wanted better controls, labeling, oversight, testing and accountability from those industries involved with genetic manipulation. Food security is far too important to dismiss the gmo issue casually, especially when you consider how it is being mandatory imposed on the poorest nations by the richest ones.
IMO it's no different than 1 person/group owning land and selling it to another....when the government, at the end o' the day, actually owns it, regardless.
Damn progress! Next thing you know they will be having us ride around in steam powered aero planes.
You need more education on this issue if you think it's "progress"
Something can be done about this theft of our fruits and vegetables. Grow your own and keep some seeds for the future.
And for maximum irony:

Is there some research that says this is going to do to us? Need some dox so that I can understand why this is a bad thing and not another moonbat parade.
I have serious doubts about the gene transfer hypothesis, and am not sure why it would be any worse than naturally occurring genes, even if it did happen. However, having monocultures of identical plant populations is a known hazard and could result in a single blight taking out the entire world's supply of some necessary plant. By comparison, naturally evolved species are diverse and some part of the crop would be immune to any given blight.
If Monsanto has its way, the farmers farming those cultivars would be driven out of business and forced to grow their garbage.
You got it right there, Bozuri.
And also fuck Monsanto. Fuck the Monsanto lawyers, the shills and the greedy child-killing fucks that want to bleed dry cities they can't even spell right with their GM shit. Fuck them all, hard.
And fuck anyone who doesn't want to destroy their shitty global food extortion racket.
um, u mad?
Oh you guys...what do you think pollen/stamen sex is if not the transfer of genetic material? Pollen travels the globe in the jet stream. Ancient strains of corn still farmed in remote villages around Chiapas, Mexico have been exposed to GM corn pollen from half a world away.
Some relatives of crop plants can be affected by Monsanto's products, which just might make weeds...ROUNDUP RESISTANT! And this is funny because they want to soak the world in Roundup, then sell you seeds for plants that aren't affected by it. Unfortunately, it just doesn't work that way. It's an evil plan, for sure, one that would make the entire world Monsanto dependent.
But here's the funny part. I read about a study that suggests these crops will share that resistance with relatives over time. So we'll be back to square one, we'll have lost genetic diversity, and Monsanto will have made a shit ton of money in the interim.
Personally, I think GMOs show a lot of promise and much of the "Frankenfood" hysteria is completely misplaced and borders on the Luddite. However, that said, the corporations which do the majority of business in the field, like Monsanto, are so outright evil that I don't think it's even a violation of Godwin's Law to compare them to Nazis. The policies promoted by Monsanto, if adopted, would literally lead to mass starvation.
They want to abolish the system that has worked for thousands of years, of saving seeds from the previous harvest to reuse in later seasons. The purpose of this is to force farmers to come back to Monsanto every year. If their country has had some financial disaster, Monsanto doesn't give a shit. Their people can die, as far as Monsanto cares. In fact, Monsanto will turn a profit on their desperation. If they attempt to feed their people, Monsanto will sue them, even if they are using natural breeds, whether or not they have any case at all.
They know the marginal subsistence farmer simply can't survive the legal onslaught of a corporate monster and will be driven out of business.
I'd call it Scientology tactics but they're actually a lot worse and threaten a lot more people.
Yes, and the plus for Monsanto about this is that they then sue the farmers inadvertently growing crops with some GM genes in them, for patent infringement and drive them out of business or extort them into becoming Monsanto's bitches, with a slave contract forcing them to use Monsanto products forevermore.
They've done that and succeeded, but now, farmers have banded together for a class action suit against monsanto. If they can't keep their dicks out of other ppl's stamens, they should pay support, not sue the mother!
If I could like this more times, I would. They are the most stone-evil fuckers on the planet. If they had their way, it is exactly as you say. Suing farmers whose crops have been tainted by Monsanto GM pollen is un-fucking-believable. If they can't keep their pollen in their pants, they should pay for fucking our plants!
Piss off you poorly educated anti-GMO hippies. Y'all a bunch of Luddite fuckers that need to get off mah Internet. Go build your own "all natural" Internet using the vital force, or thetans, or magick, or the like.
Go read some ERV, some Biofortified, some Tomorrow's Table, and some other plant genetics blogs.
Relentless black PR toward a specific company sometimes means a bunch of lawyers are revving up a class action machine.
cannot recommend this video more highly to anyone who is interested enough in this topic to spend their time on it...
....i.e. is reading this right now.
oh, and this one is less specific, but i consider it compulsive viewing for anyone literate enough to understand it, along with carl sagans cosmos.... but i digress.
The GMO are replacing regular plants and using their water and food and giving back no seed. The crops are "one-time" use.
They can not be eradicated
Interesting and insightful. However opposing GMOs is not the same thing as being Luddite. There are documented problems..crop replacement, changes in the ability of animals to digest their food because the change in plant "roughage". It's possible that the genes can be transferred to humans, it is proven they are transferred to other plants.
Add hemlock, strychnine, and hydrogen sulphide gas to your list of all natural.
Donkey-punched by the Monkey's Paw:
Use of a single pest control method year after year.
Growers getting lazy and stupid by not rotating their crops to control pests.
Leading to pests adapting and breeding resistant.
Leading to overuse of herbicides. (Which end up in food.)
Leading to pests adapting and breeding even more resistant.
Mono-culture GM plants: i.e. A pest or disease that works against one corn plant, works against all the corn plants. (See potato famine.)
GM plants can't adapt against new pests, diseases or for local soil and weather because the seed of the successful plants is never saved. Every year the reset button is pushed.
And now Monsanto and other companies are crafting plants that actively produce pest control agents (which also ends up in food) and TA DA! natural section is producing pests resistant to that. (Unless they can destroy 100% of pests, the resistant remainder will breed and try, try again.
This is the same kind of fool's race as the mass overuse of antibiotics on livestock destroying the effectiveness of antibiotics for humans.
I think I'll go re-read John Brunner's The Sheep Look Up.
It is a saying but about beer and without the insert your diety... Personally, I'd want the weed and a bowl of GMO popcorn long before your list.
For those who question the dangers of GMO food.

Good. I hope they do. Look how well that turned out for Scientolofuckery.
This. The problem with GMOs isn't the crops themselves- it's the practices of the industry built around those crops that is problematic. And I'm not saying we should get rid of that industry. But we do need to slow down a bit and think through the ramifications of these new technologies.
STFU retard unless you have something substantive to say. I have consistently stated my support for GMOs themselves. I think they're the future. We should have more of them.
The question is whether we want it to be a good future or a shitty Monsanto future. The problem with genetic monocultures is documented and well-known to any geneticist. If you just have Monsanto and ConAgra and ADM and a couple other scumbag corporations like that, you are guaranteed monocultures. You need more competition. GMOs should, I would say, be open source.
Feel free to praise the cock in your ass just because it's a GMO cock and attached to Monsanto. Don't expect your intelligence to be praised much, though.
Farms = monoculture. Nothing to do with GMOs or Monsanto.
GMO crops have the best yields, so less farmland is needed to feed people.
Monsanto Corn FAIL
Will scientologists ban GMO because of this association? LOL
WTF? You've never lived on a farm have you? Sounds like you've never driven by one on the freeway.
And best yields meaning less farmland??? You go to dude ranches and pretend you are a cowboy, don't you.
This is not correct.
Good land management/Crop rotation can increase yields per acre.
A major issue is unsold food from supermarket chains being dumped.
