Work in PR? HELP US COMPILE EMAIL LIST FOR PRESS RELEASES

I have been sending out the press releases that hit here and that are put out about 2/10, 3/15, and now 4/12 as well. I have a decent list of 7031 email addresses for the press. 1307 are for the UK, the rest are all US.

I have a little mass mailer setup on a server that can get away with it. Its been getting good response, before 2/10 a lot of the press that got the release contacted the address in it back asking questions.

But the problem is that my list is no where near complete enough. So I would like to ask all the local area people who already have lists together of email addresses for their local media to pm me their list. I will add that into the list I have, minus dupes. I have been very good with this list, removing anyone who sends an unsubscribe (out of an original 8213 only 6 unsubscribes so far, the rest missing were bad addresses which brought me down to 7031 good ones.)

I would also like if anybody works for PR firms, run political campaigns, etc. Something that gives you access to a good press list. I have seen a couple really nice copies of the for pay ones for certain areas and I must say they are amazing. It would be nice to get something like those for every state.

I will not be sending the current huge list to everyone who asks, as that would make the list somewhat useless if we all started spamming it. It will only be used once you anonymous come up with a solid press release that needs to be sent to the press. Again, examples are the ones for 2/10, 3/15, and the Operation Reconnect one for 4/12. The best one so far to go out was the one that went out last night for exscientologykids.com.

    tl;dr
Send (pm) me contact email lists for your local press so I can compile a good US and International list for our press releases.

Re: Email addresses for US and International press

I'm making this global for a day or two. Anybody posting here that's involved in a PR firm or doing equivalent work for any other organization, please post here. Gregg'll contact you to see what you can offer.

Re: Email addresses for US and International press

Media places have a general email address for news, and then seperate emails for each reporter. So are you wanting the general email addresses or reporters that would be interested, or any reporters or some combination of those?

Any email that might get it into the hands of someone who would be interested.

Re: Work in PR? HELP US COMPILE EMAIL LIST FOR PRESS RELEASES

I changed the title of the thread to see if it wouldn't catch a few more eyes.

With the 2/10 protests, we were less organized than we are today about contacting the press. Certainly press releases were sent out, but we were also encouraging individual anons to contact their local press. Turns out, a lot of news agencies don't really like that. They like a crafted press release, and they prefer to recieve only one copy of that.

To this end, Gregg has been creating a list of e-mail addresses to send a press release to for the upcoming 3/15 protests. Some anons have come forward with lists used by their PR firms or their company's PR department. These have been incredibly useful, but are usually limited to a specific region. We want to blanket the world with our press release.

If you feel you have information that could help, please PM Gregg with it.

As an aside, one person I've talked to who runs press releases says - well, i'll quote him:
So, in theory, a bot to harvest any and all e-mail addresses with 'news' 'tips' or 'newstips' may be useful. Sorting the results of such a bot may not be practical; I have to admit, I'm not a programmer, so I don't know how practical this would be.

Re: Work in PR? HELP US COMPILE EMAIL LIST FOR PRESS RELEASES

Given that the 15.3.08 event is two weeks away, has there been any headway on a cohesive press release written along the guidelines provided by the poster from SA a while back? Having a well written press release that provides a location, at least some form of contact, and a well written introductory hook followed by digestible information is absolutely crucial. Otherwise they're going to get thrown in the trash and ignored because the news outlets don't have a media friendly way of using the information or following up.

This really can't be hammered home enough; it's one area where the CoS does really well. They have a huge media department with slick press releases and media friendly soundbites. That's a huge reason why so much of the press coverage following 10.2.08 regurgitated CoS propaganda; the CoS gave them their key position (cyber-terrorists and hackers) in a single, attention getting sentence, and then provided very easy channels for the media to follow up with contacts.

By nature, this is a difficulty for anonymous, but it's something that needs to be addressed. Rather than view it as something like centralized leadership, an anaethma to anonymous, it simply should be formulated collectively using the centralized resources available to anonymous and once finished, distributed by local anonymous as appropriate.

It's also worth mentioning that those ridiculous sites like gawker and perezhilton get tons of view. To the extent that a new video or release with a celebrity sort of angle to it can be written, they might pick it up. The first announcement to Scientology got so many views in part because it was posted on perezhilton. Pointing out that celebrities are (mostly) unwitting pawns providing money and free publicity to an organization that perpetuates horrible abuses on its staff and membership might be appropriate for that audience.

Anonymous needs to hit a critical mass of public and media attention directed at what's really happening in the CoS. In reality, anonymous won't do this forever with no change to the status quo. So the intermediate aim that must be effected in order to reach the end goal of dismantling the CoS is to essentially put the ball in the court of the public, the media, and through them, the government. At that point, anonymous can go back to being anonymous, content to let those organs do their thing, and then just watch the lulz roll in.

Maybe this isn't quite the right thread for these comments. But if anonymous wants the right sort of public and press actions leading up to and following 15.3.08, the handling of the press release and media contacts really does need to be done right. My sense is that anonymous isn't quite there, and this can't be emphasized enough because it goes beyond this forum and it will have a lasting impact on all future activities.

Finally, what about sending press releases to the government itself and to NGOs like Amnesty International? Might be an interesting idea.

Re: Work in PR? HELP US COMPILE EMAIL LIST FOR PRESS RELEASES

Anonymous has put out many press releases. Good ones. Like the Operation Reconnect one, the party hard one that already went out and the 2/10 one. We put out a press release for exscientologykids and ALAS. It is not difficult at all.

Hey guys - long time Anonymous, long time reader, first time poster. For those of you at the London protests, I was the chap who bought Anonymous pepsi and popcorn chicken at the end :D

After talking to a friend of mine and a sympathiser to the cause, I've managed to secure the following list of over 24,000 media contacts across the UK, US and Canada. I hope you all find this useful.

Myself. I have a dedicated server that I can send from. I sent out the last 4 press releases from it without problem (to a list of over 7000.) I scripted my own system for it.

Aus PR here. Several years of experience with public awareness campaigns. I've got a list of individual reporters (Freelance and staff) in Oz who we can send things to.
I'm a bit reticent to post them here, as most of them are easily recognisable. :anon:
I can also assist with press releases, if needed.

I have an appointment with the Director of Public Relations of the College. As the VP for PR of the Associated Students of my College I have developed a good working relationship with him. I see no problems with getting this information and hope to have it by the 10th of March
